The G5420T: FT-5E Filter'Tron and Bigsby B60 Vibrato
Two potent Filter'tron pickups take care of the amplified sound, where the warmth of a humbucker gets combined with the sparkle of a single-coil pickup and a set of trusty controls, including a special volume pot furnished with a treble bleed function so you can push your highs to prominence at lower volume levels. Last but not least and for tasteful pitch bends, Gretsch have kitted out this gorgeous semi-acoustic hollowbody guitar with a classic Bigsby B60 Vibrato tailpiece.

I have bought from GAK on line shop a Gretsch G5420T Electromatic Classic Hollowbody
SC Bigsby Airline Silver Semi-Acoustic Guitar.
My partner has received it from ParcelForce, when I returned from work I started to unpack it.
The guitar is very well made, the arm is comfortable to play and there are no sharp ends on the frets.
I started tuning with my Boss TU-3 output but something was wrong with the guitar and there was no sound coming from the 6th string, instead I had a reading of the 7th and 8th and this could lead to accidentally breaking a string.
I turned the tuner off and I had the sound of the guitar on my amplifier, I had a muffed sound from the bridge pickup and when I changed for the neck pickup and had no sound, I started to get nervous.
I then started to move the pickup switch up and down gently to try and get some sound from the guitar.
The bridge pickup started to play the right sound, but on the middle position and neck position the sound was awful. After moving a few more times the pickup switch, I had sound from the neck pickup but with very low volume.
By this time I had decided I would just return the guitar.
After a night sleep, I decided I needed to try and setup the guitar myself. Just the thought of packing the guitar in the its original package made me try it !
I started by using an electric component lube in the pickup switch, after this the switch was working as it should.
To solve the problem of the lower level sound from the neck pickup, I had to remove the pickguard and raise the neck pickup to its highest position.
The tuners from the 4th and 5th strings have a leg on it, you turn it up or down and it doesn't affect the tuning, this is not acceptable for a guitar in this price range.
Once you have done all the procedures described above, the guitar is playing well, and I do think that the bridge pickup is a little bit louder then the neck pickup, but I’m not sure because this is my first Gretsch.
The playability is not bad, it’s a little bit hard because of the strings gauge being a 011-.049, but I like their sound and they support the Bigsby well.
Overall I think that this price range guitar should not give this kind of problems.
After all this hard work, I do believe I deserve a free hard guitar case or a big discount from GAK.
